Hey!! Is this is gonna work?

What I wanna do is run from an Avalon U5 (balanced XLR) into an RNC 1773 Compressor (balanced TRS 1/4"), and run a BBE 482i (unbalanced 1/4") in the sidechain of the RNC. Hmmm...

Can unbalanced and balanced gear be combined like this? I know that you can run an EQ or such in the sidechain of the RNC to compress specific frequencies, but the BBE ain't like that

    Thanks!

  2. Should work fine. Short enough cables shouldn't pick up any significant extra hum/noise than balanced cables would.

However, some side chains with RTS connectors are actually stereo send/receive, not balanced, so be careful... verify what you're dealing with.

Right. The RNC is unbalanced, but lets you use a TRS cable to patch it into a channel insert (what it was designed for). And then you can certainly put unbalanced gear in its loop.

You won't have any noise issues with the RNC.
