Opposite of the thread a few down, who do you think is very under-rated, or has been a big influence on you but no-one else, or whom you never see on "How do I play like...?" type threads but still rocks anyway?

Adam Clayton - No chops, but there's not a U2 song with a bassline I don't like, and he improvises well live.

Colin Greenwood - Like above, but he also keeps great time with his drummer, and unusually for his genre, doesn't play roots all the time.

Jeff Ament - proficient with both a pick and his fingers, cool, but not overdone use of slides with fretless work, and above all, really good tone.

Off the top of my head, here's some guys who rarely(if ever)get mentioned here-

1)Fima Emphron(Screaming Headless Torsos; Lost Tribe)
    2)George Hawkins('80s Kenny Loggins' band)
3)Fernando Saunders(Lou Reed, Adrian Belew, etc)
4)Tom Kennedy(Weckl's band, Billy Connors, etc)
    5)Dave Carpenter(Andy Summers, Alan Holdsworth)
    6)Neil Jason('70s Brecker Brothers)
    7)Max Bennett('70s sessioneer, LA Express)
    8)Tony Dumas(great 'doubler')
    9)Buster Williams(another great 'doubler')
    10)Dave Brown(early '70s Santana)
  4. not just under rated bass players but an under rated band all together is Brian Auger's Oblivian Express. all of the people that have played bass for him have been just awesome. not to mention his keyboard skills

No one ever mentions Mario Cippolina from Huey
Lewis. A master of time and tone. Nick Beggs
from Kajagoogoo was bad. Louis Johnson doesn't
get much attention here.Pino Palladino, Lee Sklar, and Anthony Jackson aren't discussed either. I've been waving this flag for a long time -
    Bass didn't start with flea!!

  8. Tom Kennedy's solo at the end of the the tune, "Cape Fear" is bad!

    htag and anyone else,

What is a must-have album with Louis Johnson on it? Also, was he the bass player for Cameo?
