Unidentifiable Ampeg

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by radioodidty, Mar 15, 2006.

  1. Picked up an "Ampeg Bassamp" from Guitar center today. The tag said early 60's Ampeg amp. It has a Jensen 15 inch speaker in it and six tubes. It has two inputs, one for string bass and one for electric. Any idea on what the exact model could be? The Ampeg site has it pictured with amps from the 40's to the 60's. I would just like to know if there is an exact model number. The front also has a wooden horizontal bar splitting the speaker grill.

the ampeg book would be the best source to identify that amp. sounds like it may be one of the bass amplifiers that predated the b-15. possibly from the 50s even. post a picture if you can.

  4. Ampeg made a model called "Bassamp".

    "Bassamp" was the "number".

i thought there were several versions of the "bassamp" that had unique model numbers? like bassamp 835 or something...

  6. Just checked my Ampeg book.

    The timeline indicates the following:

    1946: "Bassamp"
    1947: Bassamp 770
    1949: Super 800 Bassamp

    etc.

We need some more detail to help the original poster.

There were some "Bassamp" models in the 50's as well--they were the predecessors of the B-15 and other Portaflex amps that came out in the late 50's.
