I've heard this piece countless time and never heard the low strings play this movement so legato. Any ideas of why Schwarz has them play it this way?
I tried to look at a bass part on line but couldn't find one anywhere. The winds also play more legato than I am used to; however, the bassoon do play it staccato.

This is Gerard Schwarz and his All Star Orchestra.
2nd movement of Shostakovich 5 starts at 24 minutes. You'll hear what I mean in the first five seconds!
