Unusual Lakland -- but it's MINE!

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by IotaNet, Nov 9, 2006.

  1. I've been pulling this thing together ... a bass at a time, a penny at a time. I've been looking for a really, REALLY nice bass to be kinda "the cherry on top" of my collection and a few weeks ago, I found it, bought, and this evening when I came home from a (crazy-hectic) biz trip, she was sitting on my doorstep!

    Peep this ...

That, my friends, is a Lakland 55-63. A passive USA with Fralins. :hyper:

I haven't had the chance to really crank it up but the tone is beautiful and the feel is exquisite. I've heard it said many times but I have finally felt it for myself. As nice as the Skylines are, there really is a little "something extra" about the USA models.

She makes a nice companion to her little sister, don't you think?

Yeah, yeah, I know ... the pictures are crappy. Trust me, the glamor shots are coming!

Great looking basses! The figuring on that maple neck is outrageous! What's the weight?

Iota, that is by far the best looking bass you have ever snagged. You better keep it, or I will drive my old Corolla up to Minnesota and chase you around with a switch from my backyard!;)

Seriously, I am so happy for you! I feel almost as if this were my own bass. I'm sure that having a genuine boutique bass will really give you a nice measuring stick for any future instrument purchases. Please post some clips as soon as you can.:bassist:

i don't think they made many of these--i believe it was an unofficial "Willie Weeks Model" at the time.
