The original one-knob Fifth Gear is one of my favorites as a cleanish/dirty boost, and has survived many a dirt war to earn a permanent spot on my pedal board. Lots of people love it pushing other dirt pedals or an amp front end... Here's the new updated version, with master volume and bias (heat) controls:

At $129, this guy is a steal

It takes the original fifth gear and adds the versatility of the volume control and a bias. I'm really bad at saying this sounds like that so hopefully someone that is better at that can chime in later.

It's starts at a very subtle nice break up and can extend into fuzz range. The volume is passive so while there is extra volume on tap it's not insane. We wanted to be able to have the same sound as the original with the ability to back of the volume some. With the gain and Bias maxed having the ability to back off some volume is great.

Sorry but I'm terrible with acronym's. What's usp?

I'm not saying this because I'm at the top of the list, but that's one classy list :)

    Good start; Thanks!
So; what does the bias do?
It's not a traditional 'tone' pot?

No. It's not a traditional tone pot. It adds more gain and opens t sound (to me). I'll get the technical details from Hamish. Thanks

So the bias does this. According to a quote from Hamish. It also adds a lot of flexibility. The interaction with the volume, gain and Bias is very versatile.

It revised the transistor. Same thing as the gain knob but this one works from the collector side of the transistor which changes the nature of the gain slightly.
