I'm mostly a guitarist but like to dabble in bass at home. I've used a Roland Cube 100 with a Yamaha BB414 for years but lately I've been thinking of upgrading the amp. Don't take me wrong, it sounds fine but I keep thinking could I get better tones out of something else.

What would you recommend if I want better sound than I have now? Preferably either a combo or a compact head + cab setup. I do have an Axe-Fx 2 but no suitable speakers for bass so that might be one option as well even though bass amp models are pretty poorly represented in the unit.

Budget open right now but let's say under 1000 euros. Just for home use really so doesn't need to have a ton of watts as I can't play it at loud volume in the first place (apartment building). Music is generally stuff ranging from rock to funk.
