Here is the scoop, I have a set of Demarzio model J's to upgrade my Yamaha BB404. While looking at it, I had the wild idea of trading it in on a used MIM Fender Jazz and upgrading it with the new Pup's. Which bass, the Yamaha or a MIM Fender, would be a better choice for upgrade? Thanks to all.

I have a BB405 and a MIM Fender PBass Special. They are pretty even in quality. I happen to prefer the Fender, but you may not.

It would come down to personal preference, Both are actually pretty good values and the Dimarzios would be a good upgrade for either. IMO

For the MIM Fender I would recommend upgrading the bridge as well.

  3. If it were me, I'd choose the bass with the less desirable stock tone. I've played some MIMs and Yamahas and thought the stock pickups were fabulous. Just trust your ears. Good luck.
