upgrading shielding for (Ibanez) bass

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by billoetjen, May 14, 2005.

  1. Hi Folks,
I recently bought a new Ibanez GSR200 4 string with the flamed maple sunburst finish. Got it from a local dealer in Burlington. I love the look, its sound and controls. My amp is an Ampeg ba110 which is just what I needed. The amp is veerrrry quiet. The guitar is not.
Quite a bit of RF and EM noise.
I'm thinking of upgrading the shielding using the techniques described in the Guitarnuts site. http://www.guitarnuts.com/wiring/index.php

In fact, the body cavity of this bass does not appear to have any shielding in it. Is this possible?
    Anybody have suggestions, or warnings?
    Thanks,
    Bill

I had a Squier P-bass years back that was an excellent axe, but it had no shielding. 15 minutes and $5 of shielding tape was all it took to make it a great bass.

No shielding- is it possible? Oh yeah.

I just picked up a little project bass from a pawn shop, and not a scrap of shielding (and they didn't use shielded wire either).
