I'm in the process of buying a Highway 1 Precision Bass, which currently has passive electronics. I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade to active electronics without doing any serious luthier work, or if there is a big enough cavity beneath the pickguard to fit a battery.
well, you can have active pickups and passive electronics. Passive electronics means you have vol/tone controls. Active electronics means you have bass/treble and sometimes mid frequencies to cut/boost. If you're proposing active pickups (i.e. EMG) and passive electronics, you should have no problems fitting a battery in a standard cavity. Makes it a slight pain to change the battery mind you
