I have a Squire P bass right now, but was thinking about getting something better, since I'm doing pretty good in the school's band and my band is going good also.
I got about $300 from mowing lawns and raking. :D I'm thinking about getting a new Fender Jazz from Musician's Friend because the used ones don't have the color I want at the guitar stores. Is this a good choice? I'm planning on having this for a LONG time. What other basses are more worth the money?

If you are a Fender type of player, or even if you're not:)...then it is an excellent choice. It is a solid bass and can easily be upgraded as your needs...and cash...arise...:)

I'd serioulsly take a look at Peavey basses. Also, you could rock 'n roll, pardon, rake n' mow some more and get a Carvin. That's a bass that you could play forever.
