I think when it comes to bass cabinetry, American innovations rank among the best in the world. Concerning heads however, I've never really found a US-made, solid state head that could compare to say the high headroom, low noise floor of a Glockenklang. Am I missing somebody?
They certainly do, but most of their heads have a pre tube and their signature sound to me is more suited to rock as opposed to clean, clear, hifi, etc. But that's just me...
My guess is that it would cost too much to make in the US. Mesa makes some nice stuff, but it is pricey, and I consider their products as being more midrange than high end. Hybrid amps for some bizarre reason tend to be very popular in North America, even though they have built-in reliability issues and the effect on tone imparted by a single tube is debatable. ...my opinion..
??? ??? The high-end relativity of Mesa's stuff can be debated, I suppose (I'm personally not a fan but many consider their stuff to be high end), but what built-in reliability issues do hybrids have?
They aren't as reliable as an SS head. If I had to make a choice between the two to take on the road I would chose SS every time.
Although Behringer's founder is German, I doubt the company is anymore. Furthermore I think most if not all of the products are not made in Germany.
That hasn't been my experience - I've been gigging hybrids by Mesa and Genz Benz for a few years now, and they've been 100% reliable... - georgestrings
Hasn't been my experience, either. And when I asked what reliability issues hybrids have, I got a non-answer back. Therefore, I'm dismissing that opinion out of hand.
Over 5 years now on a Fusion 550 hybrid no trouble under even the worst conditions (127 in the shade).
