Fantastic MTD USA Saratoga for Sale/Trade. Hand made by Mike Tobias in his New York Shop. I have been having fun trading/selling basses lately. This one is on the edge for a keeper, but wanting to try some other things like an Fbass, vintage fenders, Foderas, etc. Really like 5 string 34" scale - seems to fit me best. This bass sounds like a cross between a Sadowsky Jazz tone and can also be modern with the preamp settings. Passive option makes the bass sound more 70s Fender jazz tonally. dig in and the bass can growl - more so than the traditional MTDs I've had. Nice flexablility, action is nice and low with the craftsmanship you expect from Mike Tobias. SPECS Ash Body/Ash Neck Maple Fingerboard 9 lbs. Bartolinii Jazz Pickups (Stock OEM) Bartolinin Custom Saratogo Preamp Passive/Active control (really nice feature) Nice Mint Shape OEM hard case.
Lots of great trade offers! Very open to trade cash +\- love trying cool basses. Would love a late 60s early 70s jazz bass, a lakland USA joe Osborn, etc. looking for something that compliments my main bass, a mtd 635
TRADED Thanks all for great trade offers. Ended up trading for a brazillian board vintage style mike lull! Never had a chance to try a lull so looking forward to it
I now have this bass via Guitar Center. I love this thing. I thought I might find it on some earlier thready here. Did you like the Lull you gave it up for? This compliments my Pedulla Thunder 5 and my US Lakland Jazz. I wanted a super juiced jazz 4 that didn't look like Leo's Design and it nailed it perfectly. Makes my friend's Sadowsky Blush. LOL
Cool! Wow it’s been three years already. Those mtds are very nice. That bass has a nice 70s jazz tone with a slight modern twist. I tried the mike Lull and didn’t dig it. After all the trading I’ve basically moved on as a final verdict to two Fodera customs. A five and a six. I rarely play 4, but have two vintage fenders and a rick I take out occasionally. But I have found foderas are the ideal match for me.
You can't go wrong with the Foderas. I've never actually played one. You described that MTD perfectly. 70's modern lol. It does have "that" MTD sound underneath the Jazz tone which I love. They made a Norm Stockton model 5 string around the same time it was built. Mike said he made that 4 to compliment the line but was still considered a prototype. The US Saratoga line was born from these. I still play my Pedulla Thunder on most gigs but I'm putting a Hipshot Extender on it to snag those low D and Ebs so I won't be going to the 5 as much. BTW, do you know what strings you put on this I love them. However the guy you traded it to probably put them on they feel fresh. I was thinking maybe nickel D Darios?
