Here is a rare find, mid 2000’s Fender USA Highway, Jazz Bass Body, that I got here on TB last week. It clicks in under 5 lbs. Fender listed these models as Alder, but this looks like Swap Ash to me. I basing this on the wood grain pattern and it’s incredibly light weight. I was going to use it to replace my heavy, 7 pound, 1975, 3 Bolt, Fender Jazz Bass body, but changed my mind.

The lightly coated, Factory Lacquer finish is good, but does have a few light scratches, other scratches, and other usage marks. There is one 1/4” sized ding on the lower bottom curve. I have tried to highlight most of the issues in the attached photographs. The cool thing is, no weird routing circles, or other modern day Fender manufacturing techniques… Just a very nice, old fashioned, Jazz Bass body. I took pictures using florescent lighting and flash. I also took a pic next to my Arctic white Jazz body, so you can see the color contrast difference.

Yes, some runs done in Nitro Lacquer, others were done in an Acrylic Lacquer. I’d be inclined to say Nitro for this color, vs the later models in clearcoat red and flat sunburst

Feels like Nitro to me. Especially since it shows the grain detail so well. I have a 2005 Fender where the color is more Blonde Yellow and it says “Light Satin Lacquer Finish”
