US made Tobias Killer B - Gibson Era. I love Tobias and have played dozens and dozens and this one was special so I bought it. Not getting used as I went back to an old jazz bass with low tension flats as four strings is all I can handle now with some hand problems. Also really trying to clear out my bas collection and raise some funds. Lacewood body that is beautiful, but beat up some under the G string by the neck from slapping. The combo of the woods give this bass killer slap tone, and I am not even slapper but could help myself. Maple/ Bubinga 5 piece neck. Fingerboard is thick and dense and Believe it is a nice tight grained and dark striped Wenge, but people said Zicote or black Zebra wood. Bart humbuckers and 3 band with three was mid switch, and pull up volume for mid scoop tone. Awesome sounding but has its battle scars, beside under the G string in the front. A small chip on the B string side of the fingerboard by Eb that doesn't effect anything but is there. Three lined dents on the underside that can't be seen when playing, but are also some other small dings and some rash. None of these effect the stability, tone, and playability. Not really noticeable from stage distance or even closer, but want to be fully disclosing. It likely better looking than I am potraying and the woods are unique and combine well intone and visually. The bass is very lightly finished and feels great to play. A little like a road worn, broken in, Tobias with super fancy woods. The sound is full Tobias with deep lows, crisp top in there if you want it. Warm, clear, and lively. I like the push / pull of two basic eq tone on board. And what I have love best about this bass is that it sounds like wood. To me it always has a touch of upright sound in the tone, despite being fast and responsive. Action is good, neck is stable, everything works, and is a joy to play. Not really looking for trades, but hit me up with something if you want to do a partial trade towards it - Mustang bass, Allen Woody bass, Mesa Subway 15 or WD. Audiokinesis 4x8 birdhouse. Reasonable offers will be seriously considered and feel free to offer trades, but I am trying to clear out my collection. There is not another bass like this one. I think it sounds and plays better than my old Pre Gibson Koa Basic. Comes with Original case that is pretty beat up on the outside also, but works great. Will be packed well and shipped Fed Ex/ CONUS Save $100 for local pickup and cash.
Weight, please. On the bathroom Scale it moved between between 8.8 and 9.0 pounds, and on the hanging luggage sale 8.4 lbs. To be conservative, I would say think of it as 9 lbs at the heaviest weight, but actually little lighter. It is not a heavy ax by any means. I never noticed the weight when playing with it and always felt comfortable (as these have a great design). Noticably lighter that my old P bass, my old ash Stratocaster, and Modulus Genesis. Hope that helps.
ENJOY!!!! And please report back..... I have a 4 String Growler and been looking for a 5 string bass and may consider another Tobias....
