Use Combo as Head?

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Masterbasser71, Jul 21, 2005.

  1. Quick question, can you use a combo amp as a head and efficiently power a cabinet, or should I stop being a cheap @$$ and buy myself a real head and cab? Last thing, can someone direct me to a good source to explain heads, cabinets, racks, preamps, postamps, etc? Thanks!

First, what combo do you have?

For the second question, go here: Amps Forum FAQ. I found that FAQ right at the top of this forum.

  3. I have a Fender Bassman 100. The previous generation when it was big and ballsy and had a 15" woofer. Black grille and such. Has XLR line out.

You can do this if the head has a jack for an extension cab. The XLR out on your head is probably a DI, or preamp out. That can't be used to power a cabinet, only to send your preamp signal to a PA or external poweramp.
