Use MapQuest? Not after you try Keyhole! Holy crap!

Discussion in 'Off Topic [BG]' started by Dave Grossman, Nov 22, 2004.

  1. I've been wanting to try out Keyhole for a long time but the original version only worked on certain NVIDIA cards. They were just bought out by Google or something and the service is now cheaper and easier to try out.

    check out: http://www.keyhole.com/

Though, MapQuest is still good for directions. From now on, if I want to know where someplace is. I'm going to fly there in 3-D. :D

  2. Looks really cool, but it doesn't it kind of reek of Big Brother? :ninja:

  3. Hmmm, Big Brother ... you mean if someone ... say ... had this picture:

or maybe this picture which clearly shows you attending a baseball game when you should have been at work!

    That is your car, right?

And post a picture of something from Cambridge Massachusetts. Just because the resolution is 3 inches.

I tried to find my house, and it came back wrong! It is NEAR my house, but off by about two blocks. Also, my house is not in the middle of the road.

edit, the tilt and zoom feature is cool.

edit, I just used it to fly from home to my old job, then to the music store. I need to go practice, or to bed.

Not bad for a $30 GIS. I'd really be impressed if the images were orthorectified.

How so? Is it all a web-based GIS, or do they give you access to software?

Well, it could be because of all the bars across the street and the pot in the air. :D

EDIT: MJ5150 got it about right.

I'm not sure, but those don't look like real aerial photos. But even if they were, I don't think you'd be able to zoom in and get any greater detail unless they were taken from a different distance.
