So a few days ago I picked up an Aguilar gs410 from a pawn shop at an insane price. This is the first real cabinet I've ever bought , and it sounds really good, but since I got it for so cheap, I'm suspicious that it's a fake. All the pictures of the gs410 are a bit different from what I have, and the speakers dont have any brand on them, except for the tweeter. The newer models are 700w, while mine is rated at 500w accourding to the back. I did find an old picture of a 2x12 that looks similar to what I have, leading me to think that maybe this is just a really old model. Can anyone that knows their Aguilars help me out? I've included some pictures. Thanks
Since the model and serial number are right on the rear plate and you have the info off the back of the speakers themselves, I would call or email Aguilar tomorrow and ask them. They should easily know the answer and are a great company when it comes to customer service and help IME.
Thanks, I just emailed them my serial number to make sure. Upon further research, I found a bunch of old ass threads with a picture of the same cab, so I'm not too worried anymore, but it's good to be sure. SOLD - Aguilar S410 cab PRICE DROP!!
Yeah, if it was just a logo slapped on front I might wonder, but with the plate on back. that’d be a lot of work to fake an amp for a questionable profit. Fakers would probably put their efforts elsewhere. Congrats on what looks like a great deal!!
Newer GS cabs are front ported. That said, I think the GS line was recently discontinued. Designs change over time though, so especially seeing how you found similar old pics, I think you’re in the clear. Place the cabinet about 18” from a wall to make best use of rear ports.
It's S410, a short lived budget range, rear ported and with iirc stamped steel drivers. Somebody mischieviously has added a G in front of the S410 on the model No. The GS is slot ported (front) and has cast frame drivers. The budget S series got pretty good reviews at the time though.....
Shoot, you're right. That G definitely looks forged. It still sounds miles better than any amp I've owned, so I guess I can't complain that I didn't get a gs410 for %90 off lol. Thanks for the info
I played Hartke 4.5XL and 2.5XL cabs for years and loved them. By today's component quality standards, they would probably be considered heavyweight junk. Your Aguilar cab is certainly higher on the quality food chain than my old cabs. My advice would be that if you like the sound, you got a good deal and no one listening will care one iota about the "less than top of the line" status of your gear. Congratulations on getting something that makes you happy - enjoy!
As others have said, it's an S410. I owned two and ran as a stack years ago. Very nice cabs if you like rear ported. I sold them and bought a GS410. Also an awesome cab. The gs410 got quite a bit louder than a single s410.
