I saw a US Fender Jazz 5 - probably 2001, With a new gotoh bridge. 900$ used ( canadian dollard ), she's black with Black pg, Pau Ferro board, with the new tuners.. not the "vintage one" That's not a lot of money... i'll go the see it soon But my projet was to buy a Daryll Jones 5, skyline, Black RoseWood, Passive and Active Electr. for maybe 400 can $ more than the other bass.. should i wait it's sure that the 2 basses gonna have a Turtoise Pg, whatever is my choice.. I already have a US Fender Jazz 4, 2003, with S-2 switch that i Love, but i just use it on recording cause it don't have 5 Strings... and Live i would have to change the Bass every tunes.. My really question is, Is the 5 Strings Fenders are good like the 4 strings? it's a strange quetion.. but you know how i feel now.. Should i sell my 4 to a unknow 5? should i buy the 5 and wait maybe another year to have the DJ5.. Ahhhhh
The 5 string bass does not sound and play like the 4 string. The sound is totally different. I think they do not have the same pickups. The neck contour of the 5 IMO is more confortable on the DJ5 than the Fender. The 4 strings are great instruments and a good Fender 4 string can be just as good as any boutique model. I looked at many 5 strings and decided to get a Modulus genesis. I was really torn between the DJ5, Sadowsky and Modulus. I got a great deal on the Modulus that just made it worth it. I initally wanted the Fender, but got a sound closer to my Fender 4 string from every other bass except the Fender... go figure
DJ5, no contest ... IMHO, YMMV. I've only played the Fender 5s in shops, but I've never felt one I really liked. I also like the Fender 4 strings very much, just not the 5s. The DJ5 on the other hand, is fantastic in every way.
Ok Guys.. it's time to tell me what's IMHO and YMMV?? But, ITOH ( in the other hand) you guys told me what i was thinking Thanks a lot!
I owned a USA Deluxe 5'er. The B was a bit floppy, but after some setting up, played like a dream. I have medium to small hands and I found the string spacing to be very comfortable.
