Just saw a used fretless Salas (duh) today at Atomic Music. Semihollow body, two pickup, under $700. Seemed to be in very good condition. Just thought I'd put the word out.
Hey Brad, great to finally meet you... let me know the next time you head down to Atomic, and I'll pack a couple of basses. masterFunk - Don't know if you tried the Fodera or not, but I did - not impressed at all... the Salas actually sounded and felt better (and wasn't $3300 ! !). No knock against Fodera, but that fretless was not even close to being one of the better fretless basses I have played IMHO.
actually that was my intention. because Brad and I had a talk about what other bassES we would buy instead of A fodera. We were making fun of the one that was hanging in Guitar Center (rockville) so you are Atomic fan as well.. maybe I will run in to you one day..
Hi guys. Joe, that Fodera fretless is a bass that, as it sits, is probably the most unimpressive big dollar bass I've come across. I stopped by with my Zon and a/b'd it through the same amps with the Fodera. Maybe in the hands of the right player... I could be wrong but I was shown an identical used Fodera at GC a few months before. It sounded the same... I think it's the same bass. Nice finally meeting you too, OBP. Maybe we should all hook up at Atomic someday. I'd love to see your Elrick in person. It's always fun to talk to knowledgeable people with the same "affliction"
I live in western Baltimore county, and I also like to stop by Atomic Music once in a while. It's a geat used gear store with fair prices and constantly changing inventory. Maybe Louis and the crew would consider having a bass day? I saw the Salas fretless. The price seems more than fair, but I didn't play it because I don't care for fret lines. They also had an Ashdown 600 stereo power amp, very clean, for about $400.00. (No financial interest, etc.)
Man, Brad, the next time I go to Manassas I will make sure that I go to Atomic. I'm bummed that I didn't get a chance to go there last time I was out your way.
