Sorry about the noob McNoobington question. What is the advantage of useing the effects send and return, rather than just running the effects streight into the regluar guitar input?

...but the amps loop is usually line level, and most if not all stomp boxes are instrument level. The loop is better used with rack effects instead, or with another preamp.

That usually is dedicated for line level effects. Like rack compressors or rack equalizers for example. The strength of the signal is usually different from pedals.

Or you can use that to bypass the preamp of the amp (if you want to use an other preamp) or use the preamp for another poweramp.
