Using a slide

Discussion in 'Technique [BG]' started by Freaky Fender, Jul 15, 2002.

  1. I've been learning some morphine songs, and one problem i have is that my slide will hit the D and G strings often, and creates unwanted noise. any idea on how i can prevent this and play clearly with a slide?

  2. Mark Sandman played a two string bass, which makes it pretty easy to not hit the other two. I posted a thread a while back asking about this, and the advice I got was pretty slim:

Use a glass slide on flatwounds, and increase your action.

All of which makes sense, but not easy to do if you only have one bass (Do'h!!). Anyway, it's always nice to see another Morphine fanatic.

Btw, I was in Manchester, TN a couple weeks back at the Bonnaroo music festival when I saw Les Claypool give one hell of a compliment to Mark Sandman. Les now uses a fifties-style microphone because of Morphine.
