Using GK 1001 as poweramp

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by displaced, Jun 8, 2005.

  1. Hello.

At one of our shows I played through another guy's amp which was an Ampeg SVP-Pro preamp and some power-amp. I really liked the sound of the Ampeg pre so I thought if I got one of those I could use it with my GK 1001RB-II as a poweramp.

Ok, so I could connect the preamp-out on the Ampeg to the effect-return on the GK. I was just wondering:

How would I set the Ampeg's master-volume in relation to the GK's master-volume?
Set the Ampeg's master-volume fairly high and control overall volume with the GK or the other way around?

I did a quick search on the topic, but couldn't find the answer.

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Thanks for the advice!

The GK will still be my main amp. I just love the tone.

But I was really impressed with the Ampeg's tone at that show. (I wasn't all that impressed when I tried it at the store while shopping for an amp.)
So this way I'll have some tubey Ampeg tone when I want to without having to get a separate power-amp or selling the GK.

    Again, thanks.
