I was thinking about puting a set of Marcus Miller DR's .40 -100 on my 5er but don't want to spend the dough....So I came up with the idea that I could possibly put a new set of 4 and keep my Hi-Beam B @ 125

would this be too tonally unconcistent??

I figure the B costs around $10 and that's alot for one string!!

    whatchyall think?

  2. For my next buy, If I wasn't looking for a lighter set, I would consider doing the same. I wouldn't have problems with keeping the B or even the E, cleaning them would be enough for the tone.

I have done that with flats a couple of times since flats last forever anyway and the 5-string sets are really expensive.

I can't imagine the tone changing significantly with just the B string being different.
