using stereo pan/volume pedal as pickup selector?

Both pickups on my bass are wired to seperate outputs, so I can run each PU to a seperate preamp, and get different tones from each pickup. I only use one amp, and what I'd like to do is run the two bass outputs into a stereo volume/pan pedal, and have a mono output going from the pedal to the amp, so I can essentially use the pedal to pan between the two pickups. Will a regular stereo volume pedal do this (they all seem to have two inputs and two outputs)? I know most people use these to pan one guitar into two amps, but can the reverse be done also, or do these pedals only pan between the two outputs, and not the two inputs? Thanks in advance for any insight!
