It seems whenever I'm soloing or improvising in general, I'm stuck to one position. I'm not sure why I would do this, but I have a hunch it's because I don't know the fretboard well enough...Where the right notes are. If I'm wrong, or you think something else may be the case, please tell me about it...

What are some good steps/exercises to break this? Short of experimental jamming, is there anything I should do? I have the privilage to be able to play with a band often...But before I call a practice, is there anything I should do to prepare?

    Thanks in advance...

Introduce Pacmans scale exercise into your practces and you will know your fretboard.
