    Hi

I'm hoping to get real expert opinons on the value of this bass.

Clean, very good condition L series 1965 (post CBS) Jazz Bass all original except a refret possibly two with a subtle plainning of the fingerboard. With OHSC.

    Don't know the neck date

I'd like it's peak market value and what is a realistic price in todays market.

You need to find a professional appraiser and have them appraise it. Seriously. Not a guitar Center geek - someone who is in the business. Check the web. Expect to pay around $100 for the appraisal, and it will be worth it.

I don't know whose up your way, but you might want to check with Mandolin Brothers on Staten Island. They handle a lot of high end and vintage gear. If they can't help you, they'll point you to someone legit that can. Their site is www.mandoweb.com

    I need to be clearer....

I don't want appraised, I don't need to know its validly.

I'm hoping ofr some TB'er who plays in this world to give me a idea of it value. That does not mean I'm not interested in random post I'm just waiting for some who knows this stuff pretty well.

    I'm confused?

You need to take the advice and have it appraised.

Wow....Impressive editing my words together to form ideas that misconstrue my intentions.... Do you work of the Press?

Ok now I'm on the defensive, a pleasant place to be (got to love this place).

To me the service of "appraisal" is primarily to confirm the validity of a instrument. I guess the term "certificate of authenticity" would be more accurate.

That to me is the value of such a service. It would be a asset to a seller.

I just want peoples opinions,,, based upon what they have noticed. The more experienced the the better. I know someone will come along and treat this appropriately.

I say rout it out and put some active EMG's in there. I hear the new Hipshot ultralite tuners are great too. I would put a set of those on as well. Of course you need a badass bridge on it, think of the sustain. :bag:

Seriously, that is a beautiful bass. Sorry I can't help you with a value. I think you could get a good idea by searching the vintage ads and looking for comparable basses for sale.

I have a price guide from 2006 that stays is worth about 7 to 7.5K in excellent condition. I'm sure its still right around there, maybe a few hundred more. Hope that helps

I think you'll find that the majority opinion is that you have something that potentially has a lot of value. You should really get advice from a pro. It's like taking a Ferrari to Jiffy Lube.

Wow, that's expensive, although isn't white a custom color? I think the sunburst are always the cheapest all else being equal.

An appraisser will tell you what it's worth, not just validate.

Thanks,,just to be clear ( because I've never seen your book) are most of the description in there? IE refret? post cbs but L series?

Nice,Thanks and that's right about where I'd guess. I'm the potential buyer, the seller is a good friend.

Get an appraiser *especially* if it's a good friend.

    AJ,

Honestly, an appraisal is a valuation, not a validation. The value arrived at by an appraiser also includes the "validity." Try a real appraiser, as several have suggested. Since a friend is selling, he will want to know, too.

    Nice Jazz, btw.

Alright I need to disclose,my friend is a luithier. He's 57 and has been collecting fenders for 30 years.

We know what we have here, we also have associates that buy and sell these things semi professionally.

I'm out here in trying to get a clue of what to expect and to be honest 7k is what I expected.
