I've been playing my Variax 700 bass more, and am really getting to like it ... I won't say its "my sound" with the multiple personality disorder that might imply, but I think it's easy to dial in the sound I want (it just works a bit differently than normal electronics)

I have noticed that it demands more precise technique in one specific way. I find that if I don't land my fingers pretty close to the fret, I get a buzz ... not that this isn't a general problem, but it seems to be touchier in the Variax. I'm wondering if this isn't a problem that arises because the pup is piezo rather than magnetic, but which is being modified to sound like a magnetic.

Does anyone else who plays a Variax have this experience? Any suggestions for settings, setup or technique to control the buzz?
