veneers?

Discussion in 'Basses [DB]' started by no_poetic_devic, Nov 28, 2002.

  1. I'm buying my first double bass and I seen a good deal on a bass but it says it's made of maple veneers.
Do basses made of these sound a lot worse than those made of solid wood?

    I need help please!

Dig through the newbie threads. Veneer is just a snotty way to say 'plywood'.

In short, there is a big difference in sound, with a little grey area in the middle where the exceptional plywood basses intersect with the lesser carved basses. There are also basses made from plywood, but with a carved top, usually referred to as hybrid basses.
