I have heard him play live, the bass is real sweet, from what I hear, the one he plays is a prototype, pretty much the same as the production one, it is so sweet! I was thinking about getting one of these myself

i spent a good amount of time with it at a local store... really really liked it. in fact, if it was a five stringer, i would have bought it on the spot. i'm still thinking about getting it... awesome tone, and just felt great overall.

I'm interested in seeing pics on the japanese version too! I'm still itching to try a production model of his, although hearing him live the sound is still in my mind. I was itching to ask him if I could play it when I got to meet him, but I didn't know if he would say yes or not :p

  11. I have one of the VB J-Basses and I really like it. It is my current favorite axe. It just seems to play easier than a normal J-Bass and the tone is great. I also have an Amer Dlx FMT 5 string, which is similar in terms of electronics but I like the VB tone a little better.

My son Mark (mnadelin on TalkBass) is a young aspiring bass player and he has posted before on TB about the VB saying he thinks the entire band sounds better when I use the VB versus my other axes (I play in a contemporary/rock church band).

That being said, you should really try one out to see if it is the right bass for you.

Can anyone describe the tone? compared to a regular jazz?

playing through a rig like his, it had GREAT low end, as well as decent high end. Nothing Marcus Miller like bright, but it sure is my kinda tone. I'd compare it to... my Jaco production on steroids? (He plays through EBS cabs and an HD650 head if I remember correctly)

I briefly played one at a local music store, and while at the time I wasn't sure what it was, I did remember that it felt and played great. Hands down the best Jazz bass that I have ever played. Love the looke of them with the exotic wood top and matching headstock. Great bass that is worth a try!!
