Victor Wooten, his drummer and his kids did a live show on NPR's Talk of the Nation today. It was a great performance, and the questions revolved his aaudio book, The Music Lesson. Check it out on National Public Radio's website.
Was just listening to this on my lunch hour, very cool stuff. I loved his discussion of dynamics, tone and phrasing being a part of music theory. I especially loved his comment that an understanding of space was key and that everyone loved playing with the drummer he was in studio with (forgot his name) because he "barely plays anything". Nice.
The Music Lesson changed my outlook on both music and life; Im writing a college application essay on it. I need to find this link, for sure.

FINALLY! I feel like I'm always on the receiving end of the "type too slow somebody beat me to it" syndrome.
Great interview. I had it turned wayyy up while I was making dinner. Vic is true master at what he does.
Here is a transcript of the show; http://www.wbur.org/npr/130514374/bass-guitarist-victor-wooten-gives-a-music-lesson
Very, very cool!!!!! Thanks for the post and for the transcript!!! A Groove is a Terrible Thing to Waste!
Too bad JD never got one word in! Still, 'twas cool. Edit: read the transcript, I'm wrong. JD said "Thank you" and "Yeah".
I was there also...what a show! Having his kids come out and sing and play was awesome. His son is a great drummer. Both Vic and JD are great musicians and great people.I got to spend some time with both and came away with more than a music lesson for sure.
Just saw them last night at the Birchmere in VA. In addition to the kids (who were great), Anthony Wellington came up to play on a few songs, and brought up a 13-year-old student of his to play on a couple jams.
I almost clobbered Vic in the head with a pole supporting a wing of a giant crane puppet back in August. Thought process went something like this: (Swings pole around to flap wing) @#$%! Whew, that was a close one. I almost knocked that dude out. (does double take) Holy &%^$, is that Vic Wooten? Yes, it is! (ask co-puppeteer for confirmation, and get it). Good god, I just almost concussed my musical idol.
I was looking for this NPR thing on youtube and found this instead. Sorry if it's been posted before.
