Villex with series/parallel with a Jazz?

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by Palomorado, Oct 11, 2004.

  1. i've been SERIOUSLY considering getting the Villex passive system for my J-Bass but i have been playing with a series/parallel switch for awhile now and really can't imagine not having it.

does anyone know if it is possible with his system?
    has anyone done this?

any info on Villex would be great as well.

    1. No reason it shouldn't be possible.
    2. No. I do have a villex J set, so I guess I could try it out.
    3. Lots of prior discussion available using the search feature

  3. actually i got much info from your old posts on the Villex subject.

i do know that the wiring is very different and i just didn't know if a push pull would effect the wiring scheme.

    david,

    are you in the city?
    i'm up in harlem.

yeah, the wiring is weird. But once I got over it and looked at it I realised that at the end of the way you still have a pickup hot and cold signal.
Should be able to be put through standard series/parallel switch (he said optimistically).

I'll try it out sometime, although I can't guarantee it'll be soon. Been busier with real work than I thought, haven't had as much chance to much about with pickup experiments as before.

I'm in Lower Westchester (Mount Vernon/Fleetwood area) these days, moved up from the city a couple of years ago.

  5. fair enough...

i sent villex an email asking him about it and have yet to get a response.
i'm assuming the system will run around $200 or so.

i have Villex pups on my Chapman Stick and absolutly love them. i have two J basses and want to keep one of them more traditional (SD Antiquity II's) and have the other be similar to the Stick.

if you are ever playing in the city let me know!

    thanks again,

  6. i emailed Villex and he said it wouldn't be a problem.

so i am thinking to do what i want with the 4 knob locations i have i would have to do this:

Knob 1- DPDT push/pull for neck (and series) volume + series/parallel

Knob 2- Concentric stacked pot for bridge volume and passive tone

Knob 3- Mid control (from Villex)

Knob 4- Output booster (from Villex)

if this works fine then i will be sending him a check next week!

    should be fine.

With the output booster, be aware that the three position booster won't fit in a J control cavity - I tried it with a Geddy Lee Jazz and it wouldn't. Two position booster should be fine.
