Vintage American 3/4 plywood bass

Discussion in 'DB Classifieds Archive' started by bassman00, Jul 17, 2004.

  1. Leaving the country so I'm selling some of my gear.
Vintage American plywood bass in excellent condition, 3/4 size, labeled "Arnold Bass, No 8 1945(?), Jamaica Plain, Mass." (there's a light scribble mark on the 5) Upper bout 19", lower 25 1/2", back 42", string length 40 1/2." Top is thin, 3-ply mahogany w. Adjustable bridge.
The bass has a fat thumpy sound - I use gut Labellas, and use it for roots blues & jazz, often times with no amplification and it still cuts through. It's shape is reminiscent of an American Standard.
Everything, varnish, gears, is original. When I got it, I put a modern endpin - the original one looked like a wooden stool leg. Also a new ebony fingerboard - the old rosewood one had gut string grooves in "money" position. $2400 US, o.b.o.
    Located in Montreal, Quebec.
