I was looking at a 57 P at a music store and it was awsome. I wanted to know if anyone here owns either the 57 P or the 60-something jazz and thier opinion on the instrument having owned it. How do you like the playability and the sound, i want to know everithing i can about these instruments. I didn't have enough time to really get to get a feel for it. also what is the perpose of that metal thing over the pickup.

    Thanks

the metal thing over the pickup is mostly decorative, but if you were a guitarist switching over to the "Fender Bass" in the late fifties, and you played with your thumb or a pick like guitarists played the bass back then, you'd rest your hand on top of it while anchoring your fingers on the tugbar by the G string.
