I recently acquired a Roscoe Classic P5. It has a custom Nordstrand pickup which replaced an Aguilar pickup. The Nordstrand is a little too modern sounding for my taste so I’m looking something that will give me that 60s Motown sound.

I’ve seen multiple pickups that claim to be wound to 60s specs but all are only available for P4. I don’t mind getting something custom made if something isn’t readily available. Anyone been in a similar predicament; what was your solution?

Do you know which Nordstrand you have? I would probably call Nordstrand, tell them what you want, and have them make it. They are flexible beyond what they have listed on their website.

I assume this is a passive system. If so, increasing the value of the tone capacitor might be an easy way out. No guarantees, but it's an easy and cheap thing to try.

I don’t. The bass has been through here & in the previous posts it was noted that the Aguilar pickup was swapped for a custom Nordstrand.

Here’s the actual quote from the previous seller:

“Had Carey make me a special one-off pickup for it (NP5v with Alnico III magnets and equal length covers), the entire cavity was copper shielded, and the tone pot was acting up, so I had it replaced with a new one, and a genuine Good-All paper in oil cap was put in. That thing is a total monster now. I still have the original Aguilar pickup.”

Hey,

So I’m in a similar boat, here’s the thing, the P5 shape seems to vary. There’s the versions where both halves are the same size and some models have one long and one short.

The Aguilar pickup is actually pretty nice and vintagey. That has two same length halves. From what I’ve seen you can get a vintage Nordstrand (not the offset pole pieces) or the Delano PC5ALM2.
