VINTAGE TUBE AMP (AIMS) NEED SOME INFO...

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by sammyfallen, Jul 24, 2009.

  1. Hi.

A cool looking vintage PA head. Congrats.

Old tube amps in general usually need some dedicated TLC to operate smoothly. Capacitors and tubes are the first to be tested after it's made sure that the electrical safety is as good as it can get with these. Grounded power cord, no voltage leakages anywhere, solid soldering connections on HV junctions, that sort of stuff.

"Safety first" thinking will keep You alive and fully functional longer. You don't want to end up looking like your avatar?

+1 to what Sam posted. You'd be wise to invest in a once over by a tech before putting it into regular use. Enjoy!

My first amp was an AIMS. Stupid loud, that's all I remember.

Did you get that off the Louisville cl ? I saw one just like it on there a few days ago, but don't see it listed now. The VT 100 is a pa head, but if it sounds good with bass it doesn't matter.

A friend of mine, a guitarist, bought one a few years ago, used but in good shape for $100. It was working perfectly. Good guitar head as well as low power P.A. 4 high impedance inputs for microphones. Pretty basic controls.

Definitely have a tech go over it and make sure it has a grounded power cord.

Looks like a well made amp.

  8. Yeah, Louisville CL All The Way.

He Swears It Is A Great Bass Amp. I Thought I'd Get It And Use As A Dive Bar Amp If All Else Fails.
