Volkan played a concert of bass quartets and duets at ISB where every part was played by him. One part he played live, and the others were pre-recorded. The sound and musicianship were incredible! When I closed my eyes I had no idea which part he was playing...I ran to the CD booth and picked up his CD, Multiplicity, which is equally magical. Please do yourselves a favor, and visit Volkan's website, at WWW.VOLKANBASS.COM and pick up this fabulous recording. If his version of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings doesn't give you goose bumps, call the mortician...
I've been listening to Volkan's recordings and he's just incredible. Technically, musically... hands down my favorite at the moment. http://www.volkanbass.com/video.htm
Volkan is now a professor at the University of Iowa, and I lucked into non-major lessons with him this semester. Our first lesson with the basses will be Thursday, and I am looking forward to it!
