I would like to replace the stock electronics in my passive bass. I plan to completely remove the bridge pickup, fill in the cavity and replace the no-name neck pickup with a SD SSB-5n or EMG 40hz. Naturally I will no longer need the pickup selection switch and would like to remove the tone knob as well. How can I safely remove these switches from the system while having them set correctly for play so that only the volume knob remains?

I've heard that a built in pre-amp is important with passive pickups, is there one that would work well with this configuration or is it not important unless one wants tone controls on the bass?

Simple cut all the wires, remove old pickup, replace with new one, wire it to a 250k (or 500k or 1meg it's all personal preference higher value is brighter) volume pot and output jack. No need for tone controls at all

Perfect :) I was worried if I simply cut the other controls they could cause undesired effect. I'll make sure to wrap the loose ends so they do not short. Thanks for the heads up on the volume pot specs, not sure what came in it stock but it should be easy enough to replace.
