So my band got nominated for a "Sommy". It is a local award that is loosely modeled on some other major award I've never heard of.

    [shrugs]Billboards?[/shrugs] :D

The fella that puts it on is a local news paper writer who covers the scene here in town. His name is Isamu or "Som" for short. Hence the term "Sommy".

Honestly we could win or not win; doesn't matter to me. There are some other great bands on there and I'm not really down with pitting bands against each other. Not that it's a battle of the bands but still; it's about the music not a popularity contest.

Anyway my band; The Back Row Kings, are nominated for best new artist. There are a couple of links that you should check out and vote for us if you like us. Check out some of the other bands too as I like a few of them.

Linkage; Beware there may be some questionable content on some of the links.

Here is the link to vote at: www.thesomshow.com

I'm a little tentative spreading the word on a forum, but my guess is the other bands are posting myspace bulletins and have "friends" etc. so...what the hell. I believe this goes on until the 19th of Jan.

One last thing. Mods: If I put this in the wrong forum; my apologies.

You got my vote! I really like your tunes - I can hear a Death Cab influence, but with a hell of a lot more energy.

"F*$&ing our hands since 07." I laughed out loud! Good luck, and stay dry!

Cool and thanks. I forgot there was some questionable content on our myspace. Edited original post.

The tunes on the myspace are not as representative of us as our new material. We want to sound more like ourselves than an "influenced" band. We are going in a little more experimental direction with the new tunes. We have the talent to mature for sure. That said we are still stoked on the successes we've had over the past 6-8 months.

One last bump; Last day to vote is tomorrow. Don't forget that my band is The Back Row Kings and we are nominated for "Best New Artist".

Apparently there is a tie in one of the categories though I'm not sure which one and it isn't disclosed.

If you voted for us thank you.

If you voted for one of the other bands thank you.

Just wanted to dig this thread and give a warm thanks to you guys if you voted for The Back Row Kings. They won Best New Artist.

The band has withered away a little. The original members (guitar player and keys) are re-tooling and soldiering forth. I may find myself re-involved in this band if the drama subsides.

There were creative differences and personal differences. One of the original members made it a point to treat the drummer and my good friend like dirt so he walked. There is a long and sordid history between those two as well.

As for me; I was tired of being a baby sitter/peace keeper. I was also not interested in rewarding such behavior and could only find myself siding with the drummer on this one; so I walked as well.

The drummer and I are taking our creativity elsewhere and we'll see if TBRKs can take the reigns and come up with worthwhile music themselves. To that end I don't mind handing sole creativity over to them. In the end we may be able to set aside our differences and be a band again, but for now...I'm looking ahead (see sig).

Again and great thanks to you guys if you voted...we won by a landslide so I'm sure the net presence is what got us the win. It helps that the songs were good and we worked hard.
