Ok, today I fell a$$ backwards into this bass. My best friend's mom's friend bequeath something like 12 guitars and basses over the summer and today she gave me a Vox Constellation. Or I'm pretty sure that's what it is. It's the first one from the right on the first row, but it doesn't have the Gtuner. does anyone have any info on this bad boy? The top has a few cracks in the finish due to being left in a garage on Long Beach for probably 20 years and the fingerboard has a crack going through the middle from the 17th-22nd fret. It'll be mostly to just mess around with cause the spacing is exactly the same as my Tele (guitar). I just want to find out somethign about it.
You might have a V284 Vox Stinger . It's identical to the Constellation except that it doesn't have the built-in onboard effects. If the bass is a Teardrop and has on board effects it's a Constellation. If not, it's a Stinger. Finish checking is common to these instruments. They have a nitrocellulous lacquer finish on them which will "check" or crack over time as it shrinks. Your bass would have been made in either 1967 or 68. And it should have a pencil thin neck with a "boat paddle" for a headstock with the word "VOX" in raised gold metal on it. Cheers, TD PS - I own a Constellation IV. It's a 1967 finished in Sunburst. I'd love to get a Cherry finished one.
holy crap lol. You've just described this bass to a t. In cherry. I can't get over how thin this neck is.
Here is a picture of (my) Constellation IV. You can see the built-in effects located on the lower side of the body. You can also clearly see the pencil-thin neck and paddle sized headstock which creates a visious version of neck dive. TD
I'm sorry but the look of those basses are disgusting... and I thought Violin basses were gross looking all these times.
I'm glad you had that gunshot to rid you of your trepidation. I think they're cool looking, just a little uncomfortable to play. ... to be fifteen again.
Hi, I am from Argentina, and my father has the same model that Thornton is showing, and off course in the same conditions and the same box for protection. There are only two basses like this in Argentina, we don“'t know about the other. This bass is being in my family from new, since starting 70's In the farm there is one ampliffier Vox too, with tires, very old I hope the bass stay with us forever
should be a club of vox fans in each country The bass still sounding excellent, afourtunately we have all the pieces in perfect conditions, should be difficult to find if something is distroyed, specially in my country
I love these basses, both the way they look and the way they feel. Never played one plugged in though....
