UPS just delivered me a pointy Ibanez

It's much heavier then I remembered my old one, but this one is the bound body P/J version not the cheaper CAR single P version I owned... I'm vaguely remembering the *deluxe* versions have better wood then the cheap basswood one I had (I'm off to research that).

I took it apart and cleaned / polished / oiled it all and reassembled it with a set of year old SIT stainless flats... HOLY THUMP! I've no need to replace the pickups (was gonna replace with some of Bill Lawrence's pups). Hot and strong and a 32" scale. I'll record something tonight! It does need some shielding though. I turned my computer monitor on and the thing about lit up!!!

The Foil covering is *MUCH* worse then the picture (eBay auction said so, I knew so). It's got some mojo but I got a can of "Dad's Easy Spray" stripper that says... "Hmmmm, maybe natural will look better" ;)

Now I just need to wait for this one

Oh yeah, the seller of the pointy bass is also the seller of this
    60's "beatle bass" copy...

    Hehe...

I thought it looked neat... Mine was pretty light as well, w/ only a single p in it & a rosewood fingerboard. I suspect we probably had the same thing...

I'm just jealous, because seeing pointy basses is kinda whats driving me to do a warmoth. And, I'm mired in my own over-analysis to have fun with it... sigh... Plus, I need to wait a couple more weeks to actually start ordering pieces... finance planning,, you know...

Congratulations! Very nice looking. About the weight...it's a function of age. They all seem heavier the older you get :D

I definitely want to hear this thing, especially with the flats!

It will look great in Natural. The Benavente is a beautiful bass - what more could you ask for?

well after a long day at work (13 hour days) I got to the train station close to home in the pouring rain to find the Mrs's sitting there with a flat tire

30 minutes of wrestling the donut on and getting home an hour late I wasn't in the best of spirits last night.

Here is a sound clip of my Destroyer

recorded direct out of the Ashdown into a soundblaster 16. I added some chorus to the chords and some reverb to the lead

Oh and sorry... all I could think while programming the drums was "Needs more cowbell" :bassist:

    thump thump

*clank* *clank* *clank* *clank* *clank* *clank* *clank*

Sounds nice, tho... I still envy your points...

    Nice.

I wonder if having a maple body top would make the dass too drab...

The body's stripped to natural wood hanging in my work room waiting on a sanding and for me to pick a finish for it. It's actually one piece and nicely figured! I'm going deep mahogany/chocolate brown most likely.

I've got sooo much going on, I've not found the time. I am heading to the hardware store this week so I'll be getting the finish today.

    Blackbird:

I LOVE the look of Ash, it's as fancy as I need...

It could definitely use a pickguard.

    I love the ibanez -- so...80's.

  18. I think that Ibanez Destroyer looks might cool.

    Rock and funk on! :bassist:

Still waiting on the bag of $20s but I built a better rig...

    :D Yamaha Pre/Crown CE1000/Schroeder 1210 :D

    (pictures of that coming soon)

Govithoy: I think it needs some red tort about 3% of the time... I like it plain, lets the ash show.
