The following is the saga (yes, I think that is an appropriate
word to use for this situation) of me trying to get a pair of
Seymour Duncan 1/4 lber Jazz Bass pickups that are
functional. I'm going to tell this story in two ways, one being
the shorter story behind this transaction and the other being
the longer story with all the PMs I was sent.

    Short Story:

In the beginning of June I was looking for a used set of Seymour Duncan jazz bass pickups and Walbassman had a set
for sale for $55 and that was a great deal so I agreed to buy
them from him. I sent him the money soon after and waited on
my pickups. He said he got my money on June 19th (a
Saturday) and that he would send them out the following
Monday. Since he lives in Tennessee and I live in SC I figured
it would only take a few days for them to arrive. About a week
later I sent him a PM saying that I hadn't recieved them yet
and he sent back a message saying Nashville is notorious for
getting things behind and that if I don't get them in a few days
    he'll refund me my money.

I patiently waited for a while and sent him a message (this was
about 2 weeks later). He replied that he could either refund
my money or send me an extra set of the same pickups he had
laying around plus a set of p bass pickups he had laying around
for my troubles. I replied that I just wanted the jazz pickups
and that he didn't need to send me another set of pickups.
About a week later I finally get a set of the pickups I bought a
month ago. I wire them up and it turns out only the bridge
pickup works. I figured there was the possibility I wired the
bass wrong so I sent him back the faulty neck pickup and $5
saying that if the pickup did in fact work he could just send it
back with the $5 used for shipping, and if not to just send me
back a $25 refund for the pickup that didn't work along with
my $5 I had sent for shipping.

I recieved a message on August 2nd saying he was having his
repair guy look at it and it should take about a week. To make
a long story short(er) there was a long period where he was
waiting to hear from his repair guy and I just decided I'd
rather get a refund for it. Well, to this day I'm still sending
messages and having him tell me he's going to send me the
    money.

I debated on whether to post this after I got my refund since
I figured posting it before could hurt my chances of actually
getting a refund. Well, I have ceased to care at this point. I'd
really love to get my $30 refund (I know it isn't a lot of money
but to a poor college kid it is along with that fact that I ended
up paying full price for a neck pickup so I could have my jazz
    bass fully functional again.
I don't know what is going on in Walbassman's life nor do I
know whether what he's been telling me all along is true or not,
all I know is that I never get a full functional set of the
pickukps I bought, nor did I get a refund for the pickup that
didn't work. You can make of it what you will~Josh

Here's the long story of the Walbassman saga complete with the relevant PMs he sent me:

In the beginning of June I was looking for a used set of Seymour Duncan jazz bass pickups and Walbassman had a set
for sale for $55 and that was a great deal so I agreed to buy
them from him. I sent him the money soon after and waited on
my pickups. He said he got my money on June 19th (a
Saturday) and that he would send them out the following
Monday. Since he lives in Tennessee and I live in SC I figured
it would only take a few days for them to arrive. About a week
later I sent him a PM saying that I hadn't recieved them yet
and he sent back a message saying:

"Nashville is notorious for getting things behind. I have sent things across the state that should have only taken 2 days and they end up taking 7 for some stupid reason. let me know if you don't get them by weds or thurs and if not there, I will refund your money.." 6/27

I patiently waited for a while and sent him a message (this was
about 2 weeks later). He replied:

"we have 2 choices. One, I can paypal you back your dinero, or two, I can overnight the other set of pickups that I have ( I had 2 sets) and a set of P bass pickups for your trouble. Your choice, you tell me. I am sorry that this has been a pain in the tail. It id for both of us I assure you." 7/12

This is the next message I recieved:

    Hey bro,

"I have a friend who is a repair specialist and he rewinds pickups so I have him checking it and he said it would take about a week. I will let you know asap. I wanted him to fix it so you have a complete set." 8/2

Here's the rest of the PMs I got up until now, there's a few messages he sent me that aren't in there saying he was either waiting on something or that he'd send my refund soon since he emailed them to me and I didn't save those:

"I am waiting for a callback. I just left a message. I should know soon. Thanks for being patient." 8/17 (this is in regards to him waiting to hear from his repairman)

"My repair man left a message last night saying that the pickup lead was off the pickup and he is FINALLY getting around to putting it back on and testing the pickup. Keep ya posted. He did not give me an ETA but said that he should have it done anytime now...He is a little backed up but does EXCELLENT work..." 9/1

"Yep, the pickup lead was the problem and the guy who is repairing it assured me that it will be fixed by the end of the week. (don ya love repair guys?!?) I will let you know as soon as I have it back and will ship very quickly.." 9/20

"It should be ready. Let me call again. I have been kinda out of it because we just had a baby. If it is not finished(as he told me it would be) I will give you back your money for it." 10/4

"I got screwed up over the holidays but I am going to send you something like I did last time with a tracking number because I can't trust regular mail. I will give you a PM as soon as it is out...It would take too much to explain what is going on but I appreciate your patience." 12/01

This is the last I've heard from him, I sent him another message a few days ago and am awaiting a response.

Yet again I don't know whether what he's saying is true or not
or what is going on in his life but I just want my $30 refund, I don't think that's too much to ask~josh

To all of you who read this, the scenario above is not pleasant because I made a bad decision. Josh was very patient and I had some troubles come up that should not have affected him but did. I publicly apologize to you, Josh and ask your forgiveness for not giving this greater attention sooner. This is not how I noramlly handle any kind of deals.

    Thanks to all for reading.

  5. I've just completed a deal with Walbassman and couldn't be more pleased. We began discussing the sale of my Rickenbacker 4001 a few months ago. After examining all of my options (sell/trade...if trade, for what?), we settled on trading my 4001 + new pickguard for a 1993 Stingray5. This bass arrived at my house before I even mailed mine. Walbassman put a lot of trust in me, and I appreciate it. When the bass arrived it was in better shape than he had described. I would definitely deal with Walbassman again.

I'm catching up on old admin here and posting my feedback for deals past.

I've got to vouch for Walbassman too. He sold me my favorite ax some months ago-- a bone stock 1984 Aria Pro II SB. I couldn't have been more pleased with the bass or with the seller. Great communications, great attention to detail, prompt and careful shipping-- all of that good stuff.

I would confidently recommend dealing with Walbassman.

Just completed a deal with Walbassman and he's heck of a nice guy, very easy and friendly to work with and certainly someone I'd relish dealing with again simply because e's honest, up front and willing to go the extra mile unlike so many people I deal with. Thanks again for everything!
