Hey guys, I'm just putting the finishing touches to a new bass body for a guitar I'm making and was wondering if anyone knew any good stains for a really nice smokey Peice of walnut? I want to try a dark red stain but I'm not shure what the outcome will be and walnut ain't cheap haha
    Thanks for any feedback

I convert 4 string Rickenbackers to 5 string basses.
Sometimes a hand rubbed oil finish looks great on walnut.
  3. Walnut is too beautiful to ruin with an unnatural stain. Especially considering that Walnut is dark to begin with. Stains are for lighter woods.
  4. Well said.

Get some tung oil and start rubbin'.
