Anybody seen this? I'm not sure if it is walnut. I found it doing an image search for flea basses. The link is to planetbass.com, but they don't have it on their site. I emailed them to ask. I'll let you all know what they say.

  2. Thats the one he uses on "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" for songs like "Funky Monks" and stuff, I dont know anything about them apart from that lol. Sweet looking/sounding bass tho, fat sound.

No he uses a Wal 5 string for bssm

  4. Yeah, he didn't get the Modulous endorsement until after OHM.

  5. BSSM was recorded way back in '91, years before Flea got his deal with Modulus, which was sometime after One Hot Minute, which was recorded in '95.

As p-nut95 correctly stated, most of BSSM was recorded with a Wal, although it was a 4-string. You get to see the bass clearly in the Funky Monks video documentary. For the couple of tunes where Flea used a 5 on BSSM, he used a Stingray 5.

EDIT: I think Flea received his first Modulus basses sometime in '97, as he used them during the Jane's Addiction Relapse tour, as well as the Porno For Pyros Howard Stern show that served as a precursor to the Jane's reunion. He did the Porno show with a Modulus SonicHammer, which, after a few tweaks, was to become the Flea Bass.

All true. That Flea bass, though. Is it walnut? Anybody know? I'd like to see it with the Modulus Chechen fingerboard. That'd be quite the departure from your typical Flea bass, huh.

    From Tony at planetbass:

    "Hey Matt,

Thanks for the email man. Yes, we have had Walnut top Flea 4's and
5's in stock in the past. We currently don't have any Walnut Flea's
in stock, but we can order them to custom specs from Modulus. I've
attached a few pics of a walnut Flea 4. Also took some pics of what
it would look like w/ a pickguard. For Flea's with upgraded tops, we
typically order them with a removable pickguard so there are no screw
holes in the top. Also, there would be no screw holes in the
pickguard as well. If it's desired to fix the pickguard to the bass
permanently, it can be installed w/ screws. Let me know if you have
    any questions.

    Regards,

The pics of the pickguarded ones weren't very attractive.

  8. Drum City Guitarland had/has some Flea basses with different tops as well. The walnut one they had a while ago was my favorite. Pretty sweet looking bass if you ask me.
