  2. Hi epy, save your money and read the newbie links. That $700 bass will need a setup (around $250 depending on where you are) and possibly new strings.

If you fill out your profile with your location, we can help you find a local luthier/ teacher to consult with. If you are in a luthier free zone- then think about mail-order, and plan on spending over US$1000.

+1! Don't buy a bass from a guitar store or general on-line music store.

A 1/2 size bass is not what you want unless you are about 5' tall. Go for a 3/4.

    About this particular bass.
It looks very nice with the Spruce laminated top and nicely flamed back. From the pics it almost looks like an expensive carved instrument. The problem with all this is that you will see the exact same pics on dozens of sites; they are from the marketing arm of the distributor. You should not expect an actual bass to look like that. You shouldn't buy a based on appearance anyway.

If something seems to good to be true, it is.;)

    Good luck to you.

also, what about the EUB, the Ns design wav 4, would u suggest that to be a better bet? i've played electric bass and fretless bass for a good number of years, just wanted to start playing the upright bass.

I'd say take a deep breath, read the newbie links, and decide what you want to do. EUB does not equal double bass.

Hide your wallet until you can figure it out.

    Renting is a good option.

Get a teacher, see if you really want to do this.

NY, by the way, is the epicenter of DB activity.

If you wanna play URB, buy one. A 2 x 4 with strings on it won't be the same. Maybe I'm biased.

You should probably post this in EUBs then, and ask people who know more about them.

after the last few days, i've really narrowed it down to the Engelhardt EM1 or the Ns Design Wav 4. really two different instruments i know, i think i'm aiming at the EM1 for the near future.
