Wanted: song suggestions for modern adaptation of Shakespeare's Julius Ceasar

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by mucho, Mar 30, 2015.

  1. Hey all,

I have recently become part of the backing band for a play; Shakespeare's Julius Ceasar. It will be a modern adaptation, complete with 'backing' music. We are now in the process of selecting songs which tie into the story/key dramatic scenes. Band consists of guitar (2), vox (2 female, 1 male), bass, piano, drums and maybe additional percussion. The band is quite experienced/accomplished and diverse, so really, everything's (well, a lot) is possible, except maybe be-bop, avant-garde, classical or (extreme) metal stuff Any thespians around here feel like making some suggestions? :)

It seems kinda obvious and kinda meta for the play, but Phish's "Julius" is about JC himself. Well, part of the lyrics are about JC. The other half are kinda nonsense lyrics. Not sure if that's the direction you want to go but it's something to consider.

Motor head's "Ace of spades" but sing "Ides of March" instead.

Someone told me pants are optional.
You should perform the play in the original Klingon.

The lyrics of this song are very appropriate.
