Can anyone tell me if they have ever used a Warman MM style pickup in their Stingray or Stingray copy ? I'm going to replace the big bucker in my passive Ray clone, and was looking at a Warman, but the output as listed by the seller is 13.2k, which seems high considering i'm also thinking of going active with an East MM 4 knob preamp & plate ( cavity rout needed for battery ) Is the Warman MM really only meant to be used passively, or is this high output pup gonna be fine with the East MM preamp ?
If you can use a pickup in any scenario in which there is not an onboard preamp, then you can also add a preamp without issue. This is because most preamps have an input impedance that matches that of amp inputs. You are confusing output with DC resistance. 13.2k Ohms is the DC resistance of the coils. Output is the voltage put out by the coils. It's an apples to oranges comparison.
Thanks for the heads up - didnt know that about pickups, cos i'm just not electrically minded, but the news is good anyways, so I can grab the Warman and go ahead with preamping
