Was doing some research for a possible future purchase and noticed that Warmoth Deluxe 5 necks aren't not for the 'newer ?' 5-bolt Fender Deluxe neck/specs. It should say older because Fender went back to the 4-bolt... but then I'm really confused because the Warmoth Deluxe 5 necks are 22 fret and newer Fenders are 21 fret?

Is the only difference between the 4-bolt and 5-bolt the bolts?

    Reason for possible purchase:

  2. All of the 2012 Fender American Deluxe basses I have seen are 5 bolt. When did they go to a 4 bolt on the Deluxe?

Warmoth Deluxe necks are designed to fit the older 22-fret Fender American Deluxe Jazz Vs, not the new 21-fret models. It's not just a question of the number of bolts, but the length of the neck and the heel size.

So even if my 22 fret neck is a 5-bolt, I should have no problem with a 4-bolt Warmoth. Sweet!

I have an email into Warmoth just to make sure.

    Thanks

Just got an email from Warmoth claiming that their Deluxe 5 neck will not fit on my 2002 American Deluxe Jazz 5 string 5-bolt. I even sent two emails describing my bass. They said that many have tried to make it fit but have failed. They even said that it will not intonate correctly. (???)

I guess I have to take their word for it.

    There ya have it. Damn!!!

Odd--yours sure *looks* like the version that the Warmoth Deluxe necks and bodies were modeled after. But it's good that you checked with them!

    I know... very odd. :meh:

    Quoted from Warmoth site:

"Warmoth has held to the Fender American Deluxe 5 4-bolt dimensions in our Deluxe 5 necks. Warmoth does not offer a neck to fit the newer 5-bolt body."

I even described my bass again in full detail in an additional email, and received the same response that it won't fit. I'd like to take a chance but don't have that kind of money now to take the chance. Bummer!!!

Warmoth *sigh*...great products but the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing..

Warmoth Deluxe V 22 fret necks WILL work with a 22 fret Fender American Deluxe body. The 2010 and newer 21 fret Fenders, nope.

Re: the number of bolts holding the neck to the body, it's immaterial.

Heel width, and depth ARE important but not bolt pattern.

Wow. I even told them I have a 22 fret neck. They need some new customer service reps.

Well... I may order one. It's cheaper than a new bass. Even cheaper than a cheap bass. :D

Have you personally tried this? Can you confirm the 5th mounting screw will not impact with the reinforcing rods? This is an important detail to consider.

Apologies if this sounds brusque, but a bit more background might be helpful here. Fender does not (and is under no obligation) to provide Warmoth with technical details on their products. Nor do they provide samples for examination. It falls on staff and management to research new products to determine compatibility. It isn't feasible to go out and buy one of every new product design that comes out to test. That goes for all Fender products and similar companies. The test instruments would fill the shop. The next best option is to provide dimensional information on our products to help the customer decide what works. That would be the 'Will it fit my bass?' page. (Warmoth Custom Guitar Parts - Bass Necks FAQ2)

To the OP, we'd love to sell you a neck, but Warmoth cannot guarantee compatibility. It is a case of buyer beware (or more specifically buyer be aware of the possible issues.) You'd likely want to omit the standard neck mounting holes and use your body as a reference for drilling the 5 bolt pattern.

The 5 bolt pattern did not interfere with the rods.
Ignore the extra holes, three on the right and two on the left just inside the Warmoth spec 4 bolt pattern is where they end up based on Fender Am Dlxe 2008 model.
