active basses need batteries to make a sound.

    passive basses dont.

    Ditto.

Some (?) of the Warwicks actives have the push-pull volume so you can kick back and forth to passive mode. Surprisingly, my Streamer LX shows virtually no volume difference between the two modes. The passive tone is bit too crisp in the high end; you may have to roll off the treble on your amp to compensate.

  4. There's almost no volume change between active an passive modes on my W, but it makes a lot of difference on the EQ!!
