I will be in the market for another bass soon. I have had some time to do some research and I've narrowed my focus on either a Warwick Corvette $$ or a Music-man Bongo HH, both 4 strings. My budget will be around a grand, so I will be buying used. I currently have a Warwick Corvette Standard Bubinga with MEC Gold active single coils. I love the way it plays, but it's heavy and the tone is lacking. I play anything from funk, metal, blues, rock, etc. I also like to play with overdrive and a wah pedal. Just seems to me that having a bass with double hum-buckers would sound better for an over driven tone. I play through an Ampeg SVT 3Pro into an Ampeg PR410HLF, (the huge, heavy one). I am using a Wren and Cuff Pickle Pie B, a vintage Morley Power Wah Boost and a Mark Bass Compressore. Between the Warwick Corvette $$ and the Musicman Bongo HH, which would be a better choice?
Having owned both... I can say that they are both up there with each other. IMHO, if you are looking for a more modern tone, I would say go with the Bongo. If you are looking for a more traditional chunky blues and rock tone, I would say go with the Warwick. If possible, try them out first through your amp or a similar one at a music store... and crank it up loud. This will give you a good perspective as to the bass's dynamics through a loud amp. Good luck!
Go for the Bongo hands down! I have 2 right now with 2 more being built. They are simply great basses all around. I freaking love them! I have played quite a few Warwicks and I do like them but they are not as versatile as the Bongo's are and I don't like them as much.
As a person who loves Warwicks and owns a MIG Fretless 4 string Corvette Std., I also own a Musicman Bongo 5 string HH, and in this case I would full-heartedly endorse the Musicman Bongo. It is just such a unique and versitile instrument that I think everyone who has the money should own one honestly!
